ARTS AND MUSEUMS

MUSÉE DE L’ANNONCIADE
LE PORT

Saint-Tropez has been one of the most active centres of "avant-garde" painting from the beginning of the 20th Century, thanks to Paul Signac. who fell under
the spell of St Tropez in 1892, inviting many other painters to join him.

The Annonciade collection essentially belongs to the pointillist, Nabis and Fauvist movements and includes works by Paul Signac, Matisse, Braque, Utrillo, Bonnard, Van Dongen and Dufy. Dating from 1890 to 1950.

MUSÉE OF MARITIME HISTORY
LA CITADELLE
This historic fortress that once protected the village and people of Saint-Tropez and affords magnificent views of the coastline, has been completely renovated and is now home to the museum of maritime history. Opened in 2013, this new exciting exhibition gives the visitor the impression that he is not merely visiting a museum, but travelling in time in the company of Tropezian sailors.
The rooms display local activities such as fishing, coastal trading, the torpedo factory, the shipyards and the submarine cable company. While the three local heroes, General Allard, Bailli de Suffren and Hippolyte Bouchard take their place in history along with stories of navigation across the seas worldwide.
